Arcadia Village Hotel Toad Races

Ah, Wednesday evening. It was such a long, hard day of sun, surf, and sand, but now, whatever shall you do with yourself? Well, you could head down to the Arcadia Villiage Hotel, because every Wednesday night, at 8:00 pm, things get hopping. Oh, we mean that literally! The Cane Toad Races are world famous and you absolutely cannot visit Maggie without checking them out. Yes, it’s a super fun event, but it also aims to raise awareness about the invasive species’ environmental impact.

Magnetic Island Markets

Every Sunday, head on down to Horseshoe Bay for the Magnetic Island Market. If local crafts, fresh produce, and food stalls galore sound like your perfect Sunday putting, then this one is a must. Discover local goods and maybe even pick up some unique mementos to take home for your friends and family (or for yourself).

RSL Markets

Arcadia is the place to be Friday evenings from 5 pm to 8 pm because that is when this lovely little community market comes to life. Enjoy the friendly atmosphere while you peruse handmade goods and local treasures. Experience the charm of live performances from local musicians and mingle with the locals.

Awesome Arcadian Colour Run

This one is for the kids! Head to Alma Bay in March (date TBC) because it’s time to get colourful! And do it while running (or walking) and supporting the Arcadian Surf Life Saving Club. Encourage all the kids to get involved in this fun, feel-good event where they can stay active and create unforgettable Maggie memories. Parents with small kids can join their littlies for free.

Magnetic Island Post Office Easter Parade

Easter is always a popular time to visit Magnetic Island. If you are visiting Maggie around Easter (date TBC), be sure to look out for the annual Maggie Post Office Easter Parade in Nelly Day. It’s always a fantastic celebration that captures the spirit of the island community.

Easter Egg Hunt

While we’re on Chocolate Day (AKA Easter), Maggie is the perfect place for a treasure hunt, don’t you think? Makes sense it’s an even better place for an Easter egg hunt! This Easter (date TBC), head to Amaroo on Mandalay and keep the kiddies entertained while you enjoy the resort.

Mother’s Day Classic

A visit to Maggie has to be a spectacular way to celebrate Mother’s Day. If you are there on Sunday the 11th of May, maybe consider joining the annual 2km walk/run and help support breast cancer research. What a perfect way to celebrate Mother’s Day while enjoying Nelly Bay AND helping a very important cause.

Two Bays Trail Run

It’s back again. The annual run from Nelly Bay to Arcadia is a popular event and in 2025, it will be on May 24th. Pull on your running shoes and experience the beauty of Maggie as nature intended. 6km, 12km, or 21km routes are on offer to suit.

Afrekete 2025 Afro-Cuban Festival

This May 23rd to the 25th you’ll find Afrekete on Magnetic Island at Amaroo on Mandalay. Afrekete is Australia’s premier Afro-Cuban cultural celebration. It’s a festival of extravagance through music, dance, art, and storytelling and is a brilliant and colourful celebration of diversity and culture.

Bay to Base

No, it’s not a race. It’s a non-competitive trek across Maggie. Get ready for this unique fully-supported experience on June 7th. Everyone is welcome so consider your personal level of fitness, experience, and desire, when you can choose your distance (5km, 15km, or 25km). Connect with nature and challenge yourself in a safe and encouraging environment.

Magnetic Island to Townsville Swim

Serious swimmers only for this one. If a challenging open-water swim across from Magnetic Island to Townsville gets your flippers flapping, keep an eye out for the official June date announcement. Seriously though, only serious swimmers as it is a test of endurance and skill. But if you won’t be in the water, you can still cheer on the athletes and have an amazing day out on the beach.

Sealink Magnetic Island Race Week

Every year, the week-long regatta draws competitors and crowds to Maggie from around the world. The event represents the finale of the Queensland Season of Sailing. In 2025, it is set for Aug 28th to Sept 3rd. Don’t miss this prestigious sailing regatta – it is a highlight of the island’s event calendar with yacht races, social events, fine dining, and live entertainment.

Subtropics Festival

Oktoberfest

Magnetic Island Post Office Christmas Celebration

When December rolls around, Christmas takes over Maggie starting with the Post Office Christmas Community Fair in the heart of Nelly Bay. There’ll be stalls, food, dancing, and plenty for the kids to do. Maybe Santa will even visit. Watch out for confirmation of 2025’s fair dates.
