Magnetic Island During February – activities
What is on at Magnetic Island during February… It is a great time to visit Magnetic Island. It’s traditionally a slower time on the island with the Christmas holidays finishing and all the school kids heading back home.
Summer is still in full swing and the waters are inviting. With so much to do and not as many people to around, it is truly an opportune time for a visit.
What you can expect in February
February is low season so flights and accommodation are generally a little cheaper than in the preceding months. The January heat is still high with a little increase in rain but the water temperature still sits around 27 degrees Celcius making it perfect for swimming.
Visit Geoffrey Bay
This is a popular spot known for its golden sand beaches, picturesque palm trees, and the popular Acadia pub. The waters are pristine and perfect for swimming, relaxing, or exploring.
If open-water diving is your thing, why not check out the wreck of the Moltke, a German sailing ship that sunk in the bay in 1911. You can easily make a day of Geoffrey Bay. And less people around means more choice and more seclusion in the many bays and beaches.
Although there are less people around, the wildlife doesn’t go on holiday.
The roads are quieter too so with less disturbance to their habitats, you’re more likely to spot a wallaby, koala, or any of the other magnificent Magnetic Island wildlife. Keep in mind it’s still best to head out early in the morning if you want to catch the Wallabies.
Explore on wheels
If you want to see all that the island has to offer without the heat and humidity, you can jump aboard an air-conditioned tour bus to experience all the views and beauty of the island.
If you’re not much of a fan of a bus, you could instead hire one of the island’s iconic roofless cars. It’s a great way to check out the island at your own pace. And after a day of exploring…
Relax at the Marlin Bar (or others)
Take advantage of the February off-peak time to experience the chill vibe at the Marlin Bar Tavern. It’s even pet friendly which means if you’ve come in February because you don’t have human kids, you can always bring your fur kids.
Some restaurants on the island do close during the off-peak season but don’t worry, many are still open including the three popular pubs. So you can always enjoy fantastic views, delicious food, and a chilled beer.
So what are you waiting for? Head to Magnetic Island this February and enjoy the off-peak season without missing out on any of the summer beauty.
